Lead Clinician

Angela Knopf is our lead clinician, developing not only our players through specialized clinics that are free to club members, but also our coaching staff as well.

Knopf was a four-year starter for CSU as a middle blocker. She was twice named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, and was also a two-time first-team All-American. She set school career marks in aces, blocks and hitting percentage, while also leaving the school in the top ten list of kills and digs.

As a junior, Knopf was named to the third-team Verizon Academic All-America, and then was a second-team choice her senior season. 

Teaching is the passion in life for Knopf, who also values family, her faith and her students.


Recruitment Coordinator/Educator

Heather Evans is one of the biggest additions to our staff, bringing years of collegiate and professional experience in the game of volleyball. As our Recruitment Coordinator/Educator, Heather will teach players, families and the coaching staff in the process of recruitment. With volleyball being a life time sport, the opportunities are endless in playing after high school.


In high school, Heather was a three-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, basketball and fastpitch softball. She was inducted into her high school’s Hall of Fame in 2007. Her college career was spent in Fargo, ND where she played all front row positions and was a primary passer for North Dakota State University. Her teams where three-time conference champions as well as two-time regional champions. NDSU was the 1998 NCAA Division II runner up and quarter-finalists in 1999. She was selected first-team All-Conference and MVP plus All-Tournament Team in various events throughout her career.

Following graduation with a degree in Human Performance and Fitness, she played indoor professionally in Evreux, France for the 2004-05 season. Upon her return to the US in 2005, she knew her professional playing career was not complete. After a short collegiate coaching career and pursuing her master’s degree in Sport and Recreational Studies, she played in multiple domestic professional beach volleyball tours. 

With a stacked resume of coaching indoor NCAA Division DI, DII & DIII, as well as, a variety of indoor and beach clubs nationwide, she brings a wealth of knowledge and knows what recruiters look for in prospective student athletes.

Heather resides in Northern Colorado with her two children and fiance. We are thrilled to have her on our team!


Lead Coach

Ben Reeser is enters his 5th season with Colorado North Stars and  23rd year of coaching, ranging from a lead volleyball assistant at Howard Payne University, countless junior club teams, and beginner recreation level coaching.  He played 4 years of collegiate club volleyball at Howard Payne University and received honorable mention all-conference as a senior. Coach Ben has a passion for helping young athletes learn how to compete, develop their fundamental skills and grow as young people through sports.


18 Black Head Coach

Coach Sonja Smith-Debord is easily our most experienced and seasoned coach on our staff.  She is also one of the club owners, and consults the club administration team with club decisions.  With over 20 years of coaching experience, Coach Sonja has been the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach of Thompson Valley High School, and is currently the Head Varsity Coach of Loveland High School. 


15 Black Head Coach

Coach Briana Sumner is returning to our organization for the 7th season in a row, and will be starting her 8th year of coaching overall.  Briana Sumer was our 16s Black Head Coach last season, and she lead our most successful team, finishing at 3rd overall in the RMR.


Coach Bri played at Rocky Mountain High School growing up, and played at both Premier and Colorado North Stars for for her club career.  After that chapter, Bri played college volleyball at College of St. Mary in Omaha, NE.  She then went to coach at Liberty Commons for a period of time.  


She loves volleyball, golfing, watching any sporting event, as well as doing anything outside with her two "fur babies" named Beau and Luci.


17 Black Head Coach

Coach Hayden Sweet is a first year coach with our organization, but she brings several years of coaching with her from Portland, Oregon.  Hayden has coached club volleyball for several years, and has also been the head varsity volleyball coach at McMinnville High School.

Coach Hayden has been a teacher for several years as well, and is excited to bring her knowledge of the game and coaching style to our organization.


15 Black Assistant Coach

Coach Cara Reeser is starting her 5th year as a coach for our club.  Coach Cara is one of the most compassionate and caring coaches any player could ever have.  She builds strong relationships with her players so that they feel safe to take the risks that they need to in order to grow as players.

Coach Cara played college volleyball at Howard Payne University, and has coached  at Resurrection Christian Middle School for 9 years.  

Coach Cara enjoys playing volleyball, hiking, running, biking , and watching her two daughters play club and school volleyball.


15s Head Coach

Coach Micaela Huerta is a 3rd year coach to our organization. With years of school and club experience in the northern Colorado area, Micaela is now looking to coach our players to help them get to the next level both mentally and physically. She also played for the club team for the University of Northern Colorado.

Coach Micaela is currently a certified personal trainer at Anytime Fitness is Loveland, CO.  Her skills and expertise make her a perfect fit to help players get them to the next level.

14s Black Head Coach

Coach Taylor Johnson is a 3rd year coach to our staff, but she is bring several years of playing and coaching experience to our organization.


Coach Taylor grew up in Stoneham, CO and went to Prairie High School. She was a 3 sport athlete for her school playing volleyball, basketball, and track, as well as playing club volleyball for Northeastern Club in Sterling, CO.


After high school, she to her talents to UNC and played club volleyball for 3 years there, and was the Vice President/Assistant Coach for 2 of those years.


Coach Taylor has a Bachelor's Degree in Sport and Exercise Science with a emphasis in Physical Therapy; she is currently a personal trainer and a Sales Director for Mary Kay.


When Coach Taylor isn't coaching or training her clients, she loves to waterski.


13s Black Head Coach

Coach Jennifer Schrotenboer is a 3rd year coach with our organization, but she brings several years of volleyball coaching experience with her.  Originally from Texas, Coach Jennifer not only coached school and club volleyball, but she also has previous Club Director experience from the club she once was employed to back in the big state.

Coach S is excited to help build our 13s program to prepare players for the upcoming club years of their career.


12s U Head Coach

Coach Danielle Mwago is another returning coach with our organization, having coached for us for the past 5 seasons.  


Last year, she helped to develop our 14s Red team. Coach Danielle has been involved with our organization both as a professional and as a player.  


She currently works as a paraprofessional educator in Thompson Valley School District, which allows her to refine skills as a coaching professional.  We are extremely excited to have her back on board, working to develop the future of our program.
